I'm new to and in only seven weeks of treasure hunting I found some amazing things. Go slow and take your time to learn new machine. It took me seven weeks to finally take everything out of my front yard and still have iron targets I haven't searched four. Don't be afraid to keep going over that yard because suddenly the sound your machine makes on good targets will make more sense and you will find even more stuff in your parents yard.
