New to Treasure Net

Hello,
I am based in southern california and find mysel in the deserts outbhere quite often. I started rock hounding whrn i got the opportunity. I have recently become interested in hunting meteorites. The desert seems a good place to look for those. I am hoping to learn from you all regarding identification. I am currently using a magnet to field screen but am looking to get a metal detector and expand my capabilities. Looking forward to interacting with you all.

Welcome to Treasurenet! I have hunted for meteorites in Arizona on one occasion in a known meteorite area and a magnet found small pieces (grain size) but they may or may not have been meteorites, instead possibly hematite. Metal detectors will certainly work, but you will also find bullets, trash, etc. Old lost stagecoach loot always interested me from that area! I also use snake boots and chaps but have never seen a rattlesnake due to the high heat when I was out there. Happy hunting!
