VAYANK helped solve this one. Found it yesterday on a hilltop beside an old plantation.

The first pic was uncleaned.
The back has "EXTRA" in caligraphy across the top and "rich color" around the shank. It also has a wreath on the back.

Dang Newt, you told me there where no flat buttons in Ga. I see you proved yourself wrong.
Congrats on a great find, now get back out there and find some more.

Either you have really orange dirt or your camera takes funny pics! Glad to hear the 2nd pic is the cleaned one!

I think that is the color of the dirt down there.

Being from Dirtyville, you'd appreciate the red clay here.

Maybe yes, maybe no. ;D

That's a GREAT find, my friend. I need to get my coil over one of those...and while we're at it, I'd like to get my coil over an 1808 breast plate too! ::)

It looks like the cleaning methods worked very well. I figured artillery--but thought about NY too (although I dismissed it as being too far away from the Northeast). Time frame is spot on.

Great Dig! :headbang:

way cool button. I've been finding a few buttons too, my firsts and VA YANK has help identify everyone including my sharps bullets.

nice N.y. militia button (1805-1835) very sweet find , i'm surprised it didn't clean up better though as they usually do and show lots of silver gilt , i posted a picture of the one i found last january on your "what is it " post.congrats again

Here's the back shot.
Thanks for the replies!
