Relic Hunting
Hello XP Deus users-

I bought the XP Deus in January of this year but did not use it till 3 months ago; I primarily use the Equinox 800 which I have done well with this machine-having recovered my first gold coin 1852 Liberty Head and Confederate Georgia frame plate. The last several months however, I have been noticing Deus users finding more quality items on a more consistent basis than I was with my Nox 800.

The past 3 hunts I recovered my second breast plate, and numerous bullets and buttons that have missed in a heavily hunted area. One observation is that the Deus is a killer on buttons. I recovered 10 buttons, 7 flat buttons, a button back and a General Service Eagle coat and a NY Staff coat this past Sunday. I found more buttons (10) on one hunt last Sunday than I did all last year with my Nox 800. Would I have recovered the same items had I been using my Nox 800? maybe-maybe not. I use the small round high frequency coil, and this thing is spot on in sniffing out buttons. I dig everything above 40 and have been very happy with only my 5th outing with this machine.

I still haven’t learned every single nuance yet but do love the light weight swinging compared to my 10 pound Nox 800 which seems like 10 pounds compared to the Deus. My question, I live in Alexandria VA and primarily hunt in Virginia for civil war relics, is there a civil war relic hunting program that someone can recommend? I am using Deus Fast.

Thanks and happy hunting.

Wayne

''I dig everything above 40''
That statement worries me, I dig everything above 10 but many below 10 as well. Its about the sound not the number. When you dig everything (pretty much) your results will improve 2 fold. That icludes clearing iron.

PS. I'm a trash digger not a treasure hunter.

Glad to here you're results. Yeah, program 6 Deep now is the old Relic program. You should have a manual that in the very back explains all the factory programs.:icon_thumright:

Thanks Yes I do have the manual but need to read over and over to understand all the nuances.

Interesting, some XP Users only dig above 40. When I started using the XP Deus in October I began digging everything above 10, but so many small nails, tacks, etc, I started digging everything 40 and above. I may have to re-evaluate that by digging everything above 25-30.

Nice finds also.:icon_thumright:

You have some great finds and saves there relichound. Congrat's and a Big Welcome to You to the Tnet forum from Georgia. You are doing really well with the Deus. My oldest cousin was from Alexandria, Virginia and was an old relic hunter from back during the centennial years. He sent me two U.S. Box plates that are in my collection. One was from the Harper's Ferry area and the other from Chancellorsville. There are still some great relics to be found up your way. Continued Success to you.

Great finds! Yeah the Deus is a pleasure to swing. To add to what Cru was saying, don't get hung up on the numbers. The Deus really clicked in for me after I put the controller in my pocket and just used my ears for a handful of hunts.

In all fainess to the OP and others, considering the sites you are blessed to detect and your 26 banner nods, of COURSE you dig everything :laughing7:

I think I've said it a few times before. The secret is, the quicker you 'beep dig pouch' (30 seconds or less), the more trash you remove, the more area you grid in less time, & the keepers will increase accordingly. However, that is a field huinting technique, which may not be good in a park situation.

I almost always run the Deus fast with the freq toned down a bit to get rid of some chatter. Work it real slow and you'll be amazed what you can find. Listen for those small faint high tones that sometimes don't display a number.

Yeap, although I have nearly fell out of the habit of glancing down, now that I've had it a year or so, I remember some good finds that were '--'

Grasshopper-

Your post really caught my attention; several targets I did not dig because there was no VDI display-even though the sound sounded good I purposely chose not to dig because there was no VDI display, I am assuming moving forward next time to dig these if VDI does not display. Signals were faint but no VDI. Curious what type of targets have you dug with no VDI display. Thanks

Related to what Crusader said - you'll find that the XP is a very tonal machine. You need to rely more on what you're hearing than what you're seeing on the screen.

When I first bought it the guy said it was a good idea to put a piece of duct tape over the face of your screen and dig only using your ears until you get used to what the machine is trying to tell you. Heck, I dug a half reale last year with the controller part in my back pocket because it was raining.

The important part, at least from what I've found, is that as long as you're getting consistent sounds with no VDI numbers it is worth checking out. A lot of times you'll get a high tone in one direction and an iron tone after turning 90 degrees - I've found this is almost always iron. If you're hearing consistent high tones and it's clear that the machine isn't falsing it's probably a deep non-ferrous target.

Now I know only 3 months in with the Deus to dig all those signals that do not show with VDI. Good tip thanks!

I agree. TNT-hunter stands for trash n treasure hunter. I go by the sound. With the CZ21 I don’t have any other choice, but with the ATPro I dig it if it sounds good regardless of the numbers on the screen. Some of those iffy signals turn out to be great finds, coins on edge or odd shaped pieces. Keep swingin and good luck.

I tend to believe that your site will let you know what settings or machine to use , kinda like the GPX you have listed.

Once you learn both machines or all 3 ? & have good sites you should be good for at-least a few years, 'IMO' .

Nothing against Mr. CRU .. but if I hunted in Europe i'd dig everything.

Wayne, you need to dig those mid tones that do not register on the VDI I have found quite a few good items that way. They are generally mid tones, like lead or buttons that are deep.

A lot of coal clinkers ring up at 25-30 or so, so unless I'm in a site that does NOT have them, I generally don't dig in that range. On a site with bayonets, and other good iron, I will dig the lower numbers, but not normally.

Deus fast is the program I like the best and it lets you get between the buttons with the iron right next to the buttons.

One other thing. On some high tones, if instead of swinging the coil back and forth if you slide it forward and backward, you can get a better idea if it's a huge piece of iron or not. But still dig it.
