Just wanted to say 'Hello." I live on the Gulf Coast of Texas. I'm looking at getting into metal detecting. Thinking of getting a Garret 250 to start out with. Is that a good one for a beginner? Any other recommendations? Thanks.

The Ace 250 is an awesome machine to start with. I was so impressed with the results and the ease of use, that I sold my high end detector that sold for $850!

Try one of the whites prizm series I have a prizm2 but the 3,4,5,have a depth indicater which I now wish I had.HAPPY HUNTING! Mags

Good starter choice that may become your favorite backup.

There are a lot of entry level detectors out there, it just depends on whcih one you like the best.

Fisher F2 ($199 w/ 2coils)
Whites Prizm II ($200)
Garrett Ace 250 ($212)
Minelab X-terra 30 (a little more expensive at $398)
Tesoro Compadre ($189)
Bounty Hunter Quick Draw II ($198)

You really can't go wrong with any one of these detectors, it just depends on which brand you like. They will all preform well (from what I have heard and read).

i highly recommend the ace 250 for price and performance. living on the gulf you might want to consider an under water detector for wading the surf. more bling for your buck, lol.
