Found this at our battle field site about 5" down.

Some back story:
According to historical accounts, The Militia who were being attacked decided to construct a moving barrier out of a pair of axle and tongue cart wheels to advance toward the Indians who were dug in. This idea was quickly abandoned when it was realized that they had failed to reinforce the bottom of the barricade. As the Indians were in a 'hole' of sorts, (below the White Men) they simply had to shoot upward at an angle beneath the bottom plank. A Lieutenant was shot through the forehead while peering through a small porthole.

What I want to know is if anyone can ID this item. It weighs 30-35lbs, and is made of iron. There are two 'U' shaped brackets. One is plainly visible and the other is at the bottom but faces the opposite direction.
I will try to get better pics soon. Thanks T-Netters!

Clean it up a little and get a few better pics and I'll bet someone will have a good idea what it is. Monty

Our hunt coordinator took everyone's finds home to do just that. Making good progress on the smaller items but this jewel is probably gonna have to meet my pressure washer.
Or I'm gonna need to find a trough for electrolysis on a grand scale.
