I went back to the spot I found a few nice points at the other day and managed to find a nice one. It was windy and tide was pretty high so there was only a small strip of beach to check out so I was surprised to see this.
I’m not sure of the type I can’t decide between Susquehanna broad spear , Kirk corner notch or even a Brewerton side notch .... they all have some similar characteristics if anyone wants to take a guess please do.

Pretty neat looking I don’t find many side notched in tact so I was pretty happy. I also found this tool I’m not sure exactly what it is .... I guess it could be a small pestle but it seems to small for that.

It’s broken unfortunately... it’s about 3” in length. Any guesses?? ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1580437399.252031.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1580437463.024654.jpg

Yes there are many different lithics they had to choose from around here. No I don’t polish any of them some of the pics the points are wet , it shows the flaking a little bit better. I also find some really great quartz points too like you have been finding. Really the first 15 years I hunted points about 95% were quartz all coming from a few fields I hunted near my house it wasn’t until I started hunting shorelines that my collection has become a lot more colorful.

It is smooth but no polish it has some chips missing like it’s been used to hit or peck something , any chance it was used as a drift or flaker ? I believe the material is argillite i have found a pestle made from this material before but much larger than this. Here’s a few more pics

Cool finds and I love the insitu photos. I would guess the point is earlier than Susquehanna types, but I can't be certain. It looks like it has been heavily used and probably re-worked a few times. I would expect the notches to be wider and not as tight on a Susquehanna, nor would I expect the base to be as broad as the point. That and what appears to be numerous small basal thinning flakes makes me guess the point is closer to a Kirk corner notch type or possibly an unnamed middle archaic notched type. I don't really see many points down our way that I tend to call Brewerton's, but that is probably just a personal perspective thing. I think the other item is an artifact as well, the material type makes me want to think it was used for polishing or grinding rather than pecking?
