Did an early evening tide to avoid crowds. Got my third and best half of the year, a 1942 Walking Liberty. For a beach find, this is in real nice shape. Also found a 1948 Roosie and an undated Mercury that did not fare so well. Found two beautiful religious medals, both stamped Sterling. I love finding medals like these, as they represent such meaningful works of art, in my opinion. (Wish there was an easy reliable way of determining their age.) Happy hunting and good luck out there.

Nice finds and really not bad surfaces for salt water immersion. The surfaces will never look "right" no matter what you do to them, so IMO, just do what makes you enjoy them....

Thanks, Megalodon. This half is in unusually great shape for a beach find in my opinion, though it is admittedly a little darker in real life. I don't think I will do anything more to it, though I may experiment on some of my prior Beach finds. I might have to hit Onset Beach before the T net rush :laughing7:.

Onset gets hit pretty hard - you could get fresh drops if you are there at right time - there is some stuff really deep in spots
I have old friends that live right there and about 5 others that live a town over that have done good there - if you do go
drop me a PM and I will tell you an area that you might have more luck at there - I hit a spot that I got like 8 relig.
medals at there and most were silver and got a few silver dimes too

If either of you do actually hit the Onset beach - good luck! I would be very grateful if you report back to me if you see any fishermen catching smelt from the Onset pier (or a finger pier off it). I haven't been there for about 50 years, but still check area fishing reports to see if anyone catches either smelt (Sept-Oct) or the largest white perch in the world (March-April). As far as I can determine, the smelt we used to catch are now off the coast of Canada, in much lower numbers, and the sea-run white perch race or subspecies has likely gone extinct. i would hop in my truck and drive the 500 miles with a smile on my face if either species returned. One of my professional regrets is that I didn't stay in the area for grad school to study one of those species. Instead I left MA for good. The giant white perch were never studied and disappeared with no explanation.

Lenmac I do very little cleaning if any, years back I cleaned them they looked just like the coins in my pocket.
I prefer now not to clean at all as when I look at a dark crusted coin in my collection they bring back memories of digging them..... memories are forever.

Onset .... if you do go
drop me a PM and I will tell you an area that you might have more luck at there ....

Thanks, Casper. I will surely take advantage of your offer if I go to that beach. It's been about 40 years, even though not terribly far away.

Will do. I have not been to Onset for many years. I mainly fish for stripers and bluefish myself.
