How does one tell that it's a clipped from the mint, and not done after circulated in the wild by some machine?

I've got a few hundred clipped coins. Mostly nicks. What you have posted is very similar to many of mine.

I find lots of coins that are mangled by dummies with sanders, pliers, drills and whatever they can use, but nickels being the hardest US coin, intentional damage is usually obvious. this clip lines up perfectly with a nickel radius and the cut is super clean as shown in the edge view. $117,000 in coins searched, this is my 1st clip. been told raw stock is 13 inch by 50 foot roll and start/ end of roll plus alignment should result in clips of all types can be put in circulation. just happy to get one. look at Ebay for a good selection of all types found.

Those are some clean Nickels. Sweet haul, I know I'd love em !

many listed on ebay all from same seller priced from $25 to $35. a few sold as low as 99 cents,
(that is a dumb seller). put mine up as auction with $20 start--- wait for a nibble. will research the Blakesley effect, heard of it, just never looked it up, thank you. HH
That is a good looking clip. What's the market on Error Coins?

Only search for finished auctions to get best data. Doesn't matter what they start at, only what they sell for.
