Nighthawks and Whip-poor-wills...

They were both out tonight, in force.

After some descent rains this spring we have a good crop of flying insects, hence plenty of the birds that like to eat them.

I enjoy watching the Nighthawks early when there is still some light. They are superb aerial acrobats.

Hard to get a pic and didn't really expect to, but enjoyed the sun going down and hearing the Whip-poor-wills back in the woods.

Nice pic Brent. Is that up at the old homestead? Lately there has been a couple whippoorwills that "talk" to each other in the woods across from my house. Incessantly.

I never heard a whip-poor-will when I lived in Michigan. But down here at the farm (Virginia), it's a serenade of beauty. I didn't know you had them in Texas... But then, my 2 years in Texas were El Paso & San Angelo...

Hey Deepseeker...yes Sir, we aren't that far west (between I-45 and I-35) and retain a lot of brush, post oak, elm, of course mesquite, and plenty of cover for the birds. Ad a nice wet area like a pond and we draw in lots of wildlife 'round here.

Howdy Produce Guy, just up the road in the Brazos Valley area. Yes, it is like what springs were years ago. Actually some rain and green things. Last few years have been pretty dismal with the lack of rain.
