Looks like some type of die, possibly for for some type of punch press.

Could have been used to stamp or emboss the Mason image onto something, possibly metal, paper or wood. That's just a guess but I work with printing dies of all kinds and to me, it looks like a die. If there were more detail you could see if the image area was in reverse but I can't tell from the pic.

I have no clue what machine would use it. I've never seen a spring loaded die but it has to fit something.
