Found this today, it was tucked just under a slab on a porch… as far as I know the cabin was demolished in the 50’s and never had electricity or water. It feels like it’s full of lead. It has a hole all the way through, can’t see threads but it’s rusted pretty good so far they could be there. I have no idea what it is. Maybe someone else knows

Looked into gate weights, that lead to horse tie downs and buggy tie downs, it may very well be one of those those three things… weighed it it’s about 8.5 lbs, and about the size of a softball.

Hi. Is there a well there? It first struck me as a counterweight to make lifting a bucket full of water easier. The weight would be on the end of the pivot beam.

I don’t know of a well, but it wouldn’t surprise me if there was one, many of the old wells were filled in a long time ago for safety, I just found one in my yard actually. No idea it was there until some heavy equipment rolling over it exposed it….
I kinda wondered being off the patio and just under the slab if it wasn’t a tie off for an awning or a clothes line or something similar…. Or again it would make sense to tie off your horse just off the patio

Funnily enough I only remember seeing it in some western movie yrs ago.
You know the type, someone is lifting the bucket from the well as a stranger rides up. I do like my old Western movies.
