All, I dug near a farm house built in 1921 that replaced a previous house that dated to at least 1869. When it first came out of the ground I thought it was a gaming token. Taking a closer look I saw 1908, a bust, and a lot of detail. Did some research, and sure enough in the 1910 and 1920 U.S. Census there was an E.C. Jobes in Greenville, Ohio who sold pianos. Told the property owner it was the first time I ever saw one like it and that I'd probably never dig another. Then I proceeded to find 5 more - go figure. While a silver dollar still eludes me - today I'll settle for these.

Cool!!! Nice!!! Congrats!!!

That’s a sweet token! Six of them is AWESOME!!!!!

I think tokens are so cool! 6? That’s crazy! I wonder what the back story to that was.

Cool find looks like it’s still in good shape were they all like that ?

That is a great hit. I know there are some token nerds on here that will love that thing. Me being one!

Thanks Hughett! Unless I find a mind-blowing artifact on the property, the token shown above will be part of an educational display that I donate to the local historical society later this year. I'll give 2 to the property owners, who are interested in the history of their property, give one to the Greenville Historical Society and keep the rest for my collection.

arrow86, thanks for the kudos. Two were in better condition while the rest as good or a little worse.

Those are really cool. Nice finds!!!! :icon_thumright:

Underwonder, who knows when I return I may find more :hello2: I intend to search deeds to determine if a former property owner had ties to Mr. Jobes and/or Greenville. Perhaps a back story will emerge.

Great finds, I think tokens are fantastic hard to find items, I've got a couple from long gone roadhouses in Ak. Well done

Very cool find, invent4hir. I found a name (Jobes) & piano related match might help in your research :dontknow:

Under Favorite Sons And Daughters

Clarence Jobes - perfected a successful player-piano

People of Darke Co., Ohio

No date though.

Kudos on the division of the spoils.

Wrightdigger good to hear from you and thanks for the thumbs up! In the limited amount of research I've done on Mr. Jobes, about half list him as Eugene Clarence and the other half the other way around. They are the same person as they both have the same birth and death dates. With rain in the forecast for the next few days I plan to visit the Greenville Historical Society who has 2 files on Jobes family members. Until then I'll check-out the url you provided.

The decision to divide the spoils was easy for me. The property owners are keenly interested in the history of their property and kind enough to grant permission. Donating to the historical societies also makes sense, as young and old alike will learn more about local history. Plus it limits the amount of clutter in my home. :laughing7:

Thats a great addition to your collection Well done
