Just as an aside, up here they now own the rain. It is illegal for me to put a bucket out and catch rainwater, as the law mandates that every drop must return to the ground.
This just goes to show you, how INSANELY STUPID, some laws are. Like 1 bucket of rainwater is going to be detrimental to the acre of land around it. ::) :tongue3: In one of the posts I have read about getting permission, made by a "different", member of our forum, he goes on to say how some detectorists are giving ALL a blackeye, by exploiting loopholes in laws just to find the next best thing. WELL.....don't lawyers and our own lawmakers exploit loopholes and technicallities in laws EVERY DAY, to get clients off of murder charges, or to pass senseless laws? But I guess that's ok, for it's "their Job, and they are working for "The Common Good". GIMME A WHINING, CRYBABY, POMPUS, LIBERAL, BREAK! Think about that for a second.

NO,SIR!!!! He is not kidding !

So, if you stand in the rain looking up with your mouth open, that is collecting rain.... :laughing7:

In Florida it is against the law for a husband and wife to do certain things........ Lets just say there are several laws I choose to overlook...

Yeah just like Florida if I want rain water from God it goes in the bucket. Thats ridiculous. Wonder what they would do if they saw you with a bucket?

Heck down here lately it has been raining buckets.............

I think you guys are missing one major thing. Back in the "good old days" there was plenty of land to go around. Heck, in the REALLY old days they were giving it away to whoever could get there first. There was so much available that people only took what they could manage themselves and left the rest for someone else to worry about. Whatever wasn't claimed was just "public property". Anyone and everyone could walk on it, hunt, fish, whatever. Now, I'm talking a couple of hundred years ago. But the attitudes of people toward that lifestyle hadn't change until the last 50 years or so. Out in places like Montana you still run into that attitude quite a bit.

But times have changed. All of the land is owned now. There is nothing left out there that is free roaming territory. So now that people own everything the attitude is that if you are walking, anywhere, you are on someone's property. It doesn't have to be posted for you to know that it is likely private. You know it isn't yours so it must be somebody else's. States that still have laws saying that you must post no-tresspasing signs only still have them because they are left over from a long time ago. They hardly make sense now. They made sense when 10% of the land was private and you couldn't be expected to know the difference between public and private land. But they certainly don't make sense in cities and most rural communities (with the potential exception of places like Montana and Wyoming, etc.). If you don't personally own the land then it is somebody else's. Enough said. If you deny it you are only kidding yourself.

I don't know why people expect to be able to walk onto land that clearly isn't theirs and use it for whatever purpose they so desire. It makes no sense. If you feel this way then you might want to try updating your attitude to the 21st century. You'll find that you'll have a lot less trouble coping with how things have changed.

JB, first off you are wrong, all the land is not owned, The BLM controls 264 million acres of land, the Forest service owns another 191 million acres and the National Park Service's 83 million, none of that land is privately owned. This does not include what is state, county and city owned. We can free roam on all of that land, and detect on the vast majority of it.

jb7487,
You have misunderstood the theme here. We are being yelled at for being on land that we HAVE permission for. The fields that are left nowadays outside the city, are bordering new developments with big giant homes owned by people who used to pay high city taxes and therefore were used to complaining and no doubt received top priority by by the city when they did. I know those high tax areas by following sidewalk construction. The older run down areas of the city are at the bottom of the list for street repair even though it was needed to be done years ago. The rich streets only need a chipped sidewalk block and the city redoes the whole street! Maybe that's why these yuppies that move out to the country complain so much I don't know.
Whatever the reasons people are getting more miserable period.
No One is saying we should trespass. You misunderstood.
Dave.

Yes Dave, I did misunderstand. I apologize.
