It can't hurt but I have not really found that to be very effective to re-run the initialization routine. Typically, the more significant EMI cannot be overcome by the noise cancel initialization snd if it rears its head after you have already initialized, it usually takes more active action such as switching frequency or lowering sensitivity. But I would definitely give it a shot, first, because the other remedies I mentioned could compromise performance.

Thanks for your help, as usual. I'm slowly learning mostly from the school of hard knocks. Snow day today so didn't get out but spent a few minutes at my junk garden listening to pull tabs, etc. in the GOLD FIELD program. Really has some good audio feedback there. SO plan to use this for pinpointing and checking. Really think this will help me get that yeller stuff. Found two unmarked silver rings yesterday both read 85 (17KHz) and gave sweet tones. Few days ago got a silver war nickel (1945 D). I must have hyperactive attention deficit. LOL

i have four or five different pull tabs and they all sound different in G.F. I've been working with full tones but the GOLD FIELD pitch is much better. I know vf talked about using this but I'm just slow and have been overwhelmed. Maybe there's some hope for me after all. Kinda feel like I've paid my dues, but guess I shouldn't get ahead for things. Probably still have a ways to go. Only been one month.

Try pitch in the "normal" discrimination modes (fast, deep) too.
