Non-MD'ed treasure! Nice paper lot nets a couple of sexy autographs.
So when I'm not digging for treasure, I'm auctioning for treasure. Made a nice score last night!
I bought a box lot of paper goods for a twenty dollar bill. It is chalk full of everything from grocery invoices, court summons, receipts, to personal letters. Hundreds of documents. Most date from 1850's through 1870's. I was enjoying the finds last night, digging through all the letters and invoices, hoping to maybe find a slave document of sorts, or possibly a recognizable historic signature. Lots of pieces that I'd value between $10-$50, all the while ignoring a couple more modern sheets of paper that really didn't even catch my eye until around 12:30 last night. Hit me like a ton of bricks. FDR! And an early FDR signature to boot when he was acting as assistant secretary of the Navy. Well, it's not a complete signature, but two complete initials, and absolutely the real deal!
I had to share my excitement. Any recommendations where to send these for verification/certification? One of the signatures has two other carbon copies with it as seen in the picture. Not sure what that is all about...
Check out the letter signed by Harry Byrd regarding atomic weaponry! Very cool. All of these letters and documents bear the name of a Lunsford family member out of Fulton County Kentucky. Good provenance.
At any rate, thanks for enjoying the find with me, and any advice you may have for me would be appreciated. I'm just getting into the ephemera market and I love this stuff...
