Noob's adventure and first box of halves... (sorry long post)
After a few weeks of getting penny boxes from certain tellers, (and hoarding the copper yo) I was able to increase the bankroll to get a box of halves. Hoping for 3 boxes a week, from 3 different branches. USBank, delivery on Thursday in my area. Pick up a box on Thursday, Saturday, and Monday. Sort / dump Friday, Monday (lunch break), and by Wednesday.
Main bank: The manager mixed up the order day, no box for you. I have your number and will call you. No call as yet.
Bank closest to work: The delivered us the wrong coin order, sorry, next week.
Random bank I asked about halves but got told the vault teller would call me but never did: I have your box of halves, can you pick them up?
Was expecting a box from my 2 main branches who I'm on a first name basis with the managers. Total surprise from the one I had never met or talked to. But when I picked up the box, it was opened. They said, "We opened it to make sure all the rols were there." I felt a strong urge to point out the obvious, the holes in the bottom of the box designed and engineered and produced for this very purpose. But, since I'm trying to develop a relationship at this branch, I just smiled and thanked them. Looked in the box, and counted it. All 50 rolls were there. So, I got exactly what I asked for. But I'm wondering.... If they found an ender, would they have taken it and told me the box was a roll short, charging me only $490.00 ? Or, did the open it with honest intentions, not knowing about the holes in the bottom for this reason?
Kinda annoyed me, but I hid it well. TOOK MY FIRST BOX OF HALVES HOME...! After lurking here for some time, my philosophy was to expect the worst (skunk box) and hope for the best (dream box). My result? 1-1965, 1-1968. SILVER IN THE HOUSE...!
Shotgun rolls, just unwrapped one end. Quick edge search, but since I'm a rookie I date checked as well. All clad (proofs, NIFC, etc) released back into the wild. Resisted the urge to spraypaint 998 coins "flourescent highway orange"...
Halves back into shotgun rolls, folded over the ends. 1 roll was a coin short, so I added one to make it right. Price of doing business I suppose... didn't want an issue as I try to develop a good dump bank or 2... No coin counters in the area, so returning rolled coin. Even if I found a "free" coin counter, couldn't handle the float time as I only have the $500 to play, er, invest with.
