What are the tabs/holes on the sides for?

they are flattened out and would have held the tension er bar,of which the fabric would have laced through.The opposing end of the suspender would have had a Brass ring,which would,"Hook",onto the tab

also....not sure about that particular company,but that style dates quite a bit earlier than Victorian

Thanks for all the info all the dated stuff that is in this area gas been early 1800's allot if flat buttons straps and buckles large cents.
