Here is a partial inventory of finds at a local homestead, the house was built in the late 1890's early 1900's. Sorry about pic quality, still trying to figure this site out. The Dog Tag is from WW2 USNR. The medallion looks like a bomb and was attached to a ribbon. I haven't found anything about it online yet. Not included in this find is all the Wheats, about 30 of them. Two 1919's in the same hole. Was there Friday and found a '42 quarter, '56 dime, 2-1945 War Nickels, several Wheats, the oldest 1911. This is a sweet little spot that just keeps on giving.

Nice haul Steve! That USNR dog tag looks exactly like my great grandfather's, who was also USNR during World War One. You would make someone's day if: (1) You researched the USNR dogtag and/or the property owner information during 1900-1950's. (2) were fortunate enough to find a decendant/relative of the sailor through Ancestry.com or similar. (3) Presented the dog tag to the decendant with photos and story! That would be a "Honorable Mention" award for you! Your silver medal may be a Sweetheart medallion. It has the same emblem as seen on a WW2 USAAF Bombardier's wings. It is Keep hunting that place, it likes you. Sub

In fact there are still many members of the family in the area and I am waiting for them to get me the address of the surviving immediate family members of the sailor. Two of the sailor's nephews live within two blocks of me and the the sailor's daughters live in the Buffalo, NY area. As soon as I get the address I plan on sending the tags to them. Not much information on the tag. Name, religion designated by a single letter, date of last tetnus shot, blood type and branch of service. I consider this my best find so far, especially when I get to send it to the family members.

You rock! Returning very personal items such as dog tags is one of the best things we detectorists can do for the hobby. I wonder if one of the young ladies that lived at this house had a boyfriend/husband in the Army Air Corps during WW2? (Source of your sweetheart medallion...hmmm?) Sub
