A couple of exciting finds today as it drizzled on me.
1909 IHP. Key date but not an s.

Then I found this button. I hope it is real.
Es Devs Spes Nostra 1812 Hessian Soldier button. About the size of a silver dollar.
The back has since crumbled away but great detail on the front.
How do I know if it is real? Other 1800s stuff have been found in this field.

The clue is the back has crumbled & the detail on the front is amateur - blazer button.

I was thinking the same thing as villagenut. Your mystery item looks like an electrical grounding clamp. Nice finds.
