Thanx for the kind words,..I enjoy shareing some history.Those guys lived all over the place.Also they left alot behind..So If I can help others learn & enjoy the histoy all around them,I will....I realy enjoy starting the hobby for kids also...Once the Artifire is lit..It could last a lifetime. :laughing7:

Sure would be interested in getting a study group, I've been watching and reading this form for awhile, sure do enjoy everyone posts, but haven't had any luck finding artifacts, or for that matter, where to look, would love to see the flaking technicks the native americans used, as well as tools they produced, pictures are great to look at, but bet the real thing in the hand is a better indicator of what to look for, it's great what your doing for new people and children who are interested in artifacts, thanks for your efforts.

I can add ya to the list for next month,if ya like...Holding them is the best way.I can get lost,just thinking about the person that made it....Thats part of the hook...The next part is finding your 1st point,or tool...Hooked for life!
You are the first person to touch those artifacts in thousands of years...What a thrill...Even the folks that get the study set,will be the 2nd person...Still cool! :hello2:

You're a good man Neo, those study pieces will really help out someone just getting started in the hobby. Reading books and looking at pictures helps, but it doesn't even compare to examining and connecting to the piece in your hand.

Great study pieces, Neo! My little niece is now hooked after hunting with me and my brother - she loves it! Are you going to knapp the ones in the bottom pic into tools?

This fall those spalls will find them selves tools for sure.It's just too hot to piddle with knappin for now.I collect the larger flint pieces over the summer,then knapp them when it's cooler.

Neo, if you ever want some flint from Missouri to work, just let me know and I'll send some your way. I've found quite a few cores that you could probably use, just wish I'd find the blades and the points they made from them, lol.

That would be cool.It will bge informitive to knapp lithics from other places.I can return the favor as well..I think some Texas flint will look well in a rockgarden...Have you tryed to knapp?

What would be the best material to use for a beginner? I have a few good size chunks of Obsidian that could be used if I knew where to start.

Obsid. is a great starter.It flakes like glass so be careful...Also be safe while knapping at all..Flint and such are super sharp.I use a movein blanket to knapp on,then shake into a 5gal bucket...When its full..I bury them and start over.
Here is my first attempt at knapping obsid..Along with my tool.

Neo, I've never tried knapping - except in the hammock, lol. Send me your addy by e-mail and I'll box up some flint over the weekend for you. Since I don't knapp, let me know what kind of sizes are best for you and I'll mail them out Monday. Did you knapp those black ones? Beautiful!
