Got out for 2 hours at a local forest preserve. If aluminum was worth anything I would be rich. Couldnt even find clad! Went an hour without even hitting junk. I have had off days but this has taken 1st place.

I think I one-uped you here-I went out to my local forest preserve and got a "warning ticket" from the ranger police. Apparently, you can use your detector to find stuff that you have lost, but you aren't allowed to "retreive lost/abandoned property, oh, and no digging. The po po was not too happy because I made a hole with my screw driver to retrieve a wheat cent from under an old clothes line - are you allowed to detect in Cook County Preserves? Do you need a permit?

Thanks,
Dawn

Were you detecting in Cook County?

Cannot "dig" in Cook County Forest Preserves. :-\
They are thinking of going with a permit system
to raise money. ;D

Most rangers will not say anything ;D, many are
interested in what you are finding.

I stay in the woods and have never had a
problem.

Was asked to leave a Will County Preserve.
Not allowed. Talked to the Ranger for about
1/2 hour. He tried out my 1500, liked it.
Thinks he will be getting something like it. ;D

It's a strange world out here in Illilnois :-\

have a good un.....

I stayed out of view of roads and drives where I was at. I have had some minor run-ins but never ticketed or had the detector confiscated. They seemed to like that I was not redepositing the junk I dug up. I tell them they wont find holes or damages and any trash I found is disposed of properly. It would be great to get a permit though. On several occasions they just left me alone, and like some have said, become interested in the hobby. I think the cops that patrol these areas are just bored and need to flex their muscle sometimes. On certain occasions I was actually glad they were around because the forest preserves can be home to some real wierdos.

Don't we all. There's good days and there's bad. But at least you get to get out, and that's what counts.

Don't feel bad Jeff, my day mimicked yours. Spent about 2 hours on a "preliminary" search around the site that was supposedly an old grist mill. It evidenty has had fill added over the years......trash & all ::) I was digging beer cans at 6-8".

I guess I'm one of the rare who did post my bad day in the back yard my 1st time metal detecting ;D

OK, you guys convinced me, my last two hunts weren't as bad as yours & Piggman's. I kinda knew that I wasn't going to find much today, but I didn't want to sit home even though I didn't have a lot of gas. OK, I'll post my small finds. Good luck next time out guys!

Wait!!! Aluminum is up to $1.08 per Lb. There is hope!!! With metal prices the way they are, guys in pickup trucks come around my neighborhood on trash night to search for scrap!!

I went to a school for an hour after work on Tuesday night. I only found a few scraps of aluminum deep, and some gum foil wrappers. That was the first time since getting my detector that I have been skunked. I usually find a few coins, but I guess it wasn't in the cards that night!

I feel your pain. :D

Hey Jeff

Not to far away....from you

There is always light at the end of a tunnel...

From now on things can only get better....Like SILVER or GOLD !!!!!!

Hey, even a bad day MDing, is still better than a good day working. :D

I know your pain. I went over to the high school this past weekend for an hour and a half. The ground was hard as rock and I came home with 3 pennies!
Wife LHAO..... HH the gods will smile on you next time out.

Im gonna give it another shot tomorrow! Keepin all the fingers crossed!

It's the thrill of the chase.... One weekend I find a sapphire/gold/diamond ring at Daytona... the following week I came home with 36 freakin' cents that I spent all day digging out of the sand. But, yes, any day detecting is a good day. And there's always tomorrow!!!!
