Greetings friends,
Snow on the ground and 15 degrees out with more snow on the way.
Looks like the field hunting is over for a while. That makes the wife happy--She gave me a honeydo list.
Well here are my recent finds from farm field sites here in northern Illinois.
The bent up silver spoon commemorates the first dormitory for women at NIU.
The Horse button is backmarked Wadhams and co.. Early 1800s I think.
The large cents, two cent piece, and tokens spent some time in the rock tumbler to make them readable.
Thanks for looking and best luck to all, Merf

Awesome finds and awesome pics.....

Love the spoon. I wonder if that could be straightened?

That 2-cent piece is beautiful....

I hope the winter isn't too long for you and good luck with the honey-do-list... Mine is growing by the day !!!

 Those are some fantastic finds. i love that 2 cent piece. I have never seen one dug in that great of shape.

WTG Merf, Glad you got out before the ground is froze to bad to hunt.Congrats on the cool stuff and the 2 center and the coppers !!!!

You really made some great finds. Keep it up.....

Wow Merf, your fields are alot more productive than the field sites we hunt in So. Illinois. All we usually find are a couple buttons and a few crusty wheats or indians. Very nice finds especially love that 2 cent piece. Oh I also need to find a large cent. HH

Wow, Merf!! You done it again! ;D

What a great assortment of really nice finds!!

I really love seeing your pics - the ones with the dirt clods with the finds sticking out, too.

Who would have thought that goods at New York prices was a good thing.... :icon_scratch:

Have fun with that honey do list, :( and good luck cashing in that token for a kiss!

Okay, my jaw just hit the floor - those are great finds. I mean, jeez large cents, 2 center, indians, buckles, buttons, and a kiss me token? Is there anything else? I especially like the pictures of the coins in the ground, gets me all geeked to get back out there. That Vaquero must be a slick machine - eh?

Ian

Nice finds Merf,

You had a real nice big copper yr. You have some nice maps and fields to hunt. I seen you post one time you used a small amount of vinegar in your tumbler. I tried it and got some nice results. Thanks for leaving that tip in a prior post.

Those are some nice finds Merf.
Is that an old school bell without the handle?

Keep up the finds, when warmer weather arrives. Some cool items you got there!

Merf, those are some very nice finds! That 2 center is well preserved, that spoon is special and who doesn't want a kiss?

That is one cool spoon. And those large cents are in good shape. I wouldnt be giving up quite yet . At least until the ground is too hard to dig. You did good Merf and nice pictures. :icon_king:
