Greetings friends,
Snow on the ground and 15 degrees out with more snow on the way.
Looks like the field hunting is over for a while. That makes the wife happy--She gave me a honeydo list.
Well here are my recent finds from farm field sites here in northern Illinois.
The bent up silver spoon commemorates the first dormitory for women at NIU.
The Horse button is backmarked Wadhams and co.. Early 1800s I think.
The large cents, two cent piece, and tokens spent some time in the rock tumbler to make them readable.
Thanks for looking and best luck to all, Merf

Those are some nice finds Merf.
Is that an old school bell without the handle?

Thanks Rodger  I am not sure what the bell was used for.
I have found 2 others that are the same design but smaller.

My buddy HB found a bell like that on a previous hunt here in KY. We thought it was made of tombac.

By the way--nice Jacksonian button too! :)

Thanks Buckles  That is my first Jacksonian

Merf,
Fantastic finds buddy. That 2 cent is in great shape. :icon_king: You got a lot of nice buttons there with some back marks I haven't seen. I think I may have a match to the flower button. :icon_scratch: Thanks for posting the thumb wheel on that lantern piece. I think it's neat to see the dates on those. Mine always seem to be in the 1890's.
Super post with some awesome finds & pictures.
Can you try to clear that snow out by next week, before I head up to Northern Indiana? :tongue3: :icon_jokercolor:
Good luck on the honey-do list.
-Doug-

Thanks Doug  That backmark is a first for me---Early Scovvils i guess.

Good luck in Indiana :icon_sunny:

Merf,
I was flipping through the pages of one of my button ID books and "Mint Edge" caught my eye on one of the pages. No earth shaking news, but it should that backmark was used by Scovill's from 1927-1940. Just thought I'd let you know.
Great finds.
-Doug-

Thanks for checking Doug  Do you mean 1827 to 1840?

I missed this one merf. Great pics and nice 2 center, and other finds too

THE FIELD FINDS ARE AWSOME. HOPE YOU HAVE A SUPER 2009.

Thanks CJH, Camoqueeen, Damon, and Kdismuke

Snow and frozen ground here now, sure hope we get an early thaw.
I got some potting soil and made a small test garden in the basement.
Kind of fun but no substitute for the real thing. Merf

WOW nice finds ,

Merf,

Excellent finds as usual. Also loved the great photos.

It looks like your fields are a little cleaner than the cut cornfields that we have here. We were out yesterday for a short time, and the cut corn only allowed for a single row at a time to search, but the ground was frozen so hard that it took forever to even go down two inches, so we quit. Come on spring.

W :oW! Incredible finds from that field. i'd be pacing the floors waiting to get back out there. Did I say wow?
