Novice Looking For Service Advise

Hi there. I have a Minelab and Detector Pro I haven't used in six + years and I am concerned that they are in a state of disrepair. Should I send them individually to each manufacturer for a health check or is there a "geek squad" of metal detectors that would be more affordable. I'm looking forward to start swinging these devices again.

If they haven't been wrapped around a tree, they should most likely be in good working order. Make sure there aren't old batteries in there cause you know what they are designed to do over time.

If your batteries haven't been removed from the machines during this down time, it can lead to problems. What kind of Minelab are you referring to?

If there is an issue with them maybe it would be more efficient money wise to just buy new. Entry level machines today are pretty decent for the money.

Against the wind, to answer your question, I just today unplugged the three pronged male end from my Excallibur II battery. I saw no evidence of corrosion, do you think I should just charge batteries an go?

Yep! Charge up the Excal and it will then be able to tell you if something’s wrong. Good luck!

Any water detector should be checked out if it has set for years in a closet. The o-rings at the very least on the excal will need to be changed, they should be changed every 2-3 years anyway, they can dry rot over time and leak destroying the motherboard.
