We have been hitting the same spot for 2 years now, and it's my favorite site I've ever been on. Not only to detect, but even to just sit there and look around. Have you ever had a site that just speaks to you? It's like I have a connection with it. I can picture them prepping the site to build on in the 1770s. I'm pretty confident that it was abandoned in the 1840s.
Anyways, getting to the point, we have been trying to read the site in order to locate a potential spot where they would of built the privy. We probed this site alot and never had any luck in locating it. Well....

The probe sunk right to the handle! The privy is a rock lined 4'x4' privy. I have a good feeling about it! I'm so excited, that I just had to tell someone lol

WE NEED IT NOW!

PS: Go Raps!

I’m looking forward to see what comes of it. Good luck!

We want glass...we want glass....show us the glass:thumbsup:

We will be starting to dig later in the week. Work and commitments have us stalled right now. You can stick your shovel in the ground anywhere at this homesite and pull up pottery. I'm hoping they dumped all the bottles down the privy. Lol

Looks great! Out in the open, not overgrown. Sweet!

It will be easy digging. We have been clearing this site out since last fall. The land owner is totally cool with it. Lots of 1700s-early 1800s coins came from here, as well as 6 Rev War Royal Navy captains buttons. Theres no shortage of high end relics from that time period either. Last time I was there, I picked up the bottom of an old pontil bottle right on the surface.

Down here, if you find the foundation and the water source, the outhouse is usually found on the other side of the house from the water source. That may not be the same for you. We don't have cellar holes here. If you see a depression here it's usually where something was buried like the dump...probing will find it. Good luck!

Theres a ton of cellar holes where I live. Most are mid 1800s but some of them are 1770-1790. There is very little modern trash around them, with the exception of bullet casings.

I wish we had cellar holes...you dig 4' around here and you'll have the start of a swimming pool whether you want one or not!

Salivating on a Sunday! Or should I say Salvation! Get with it Medic. Drop all other commitments right this second and show us some fantastic pontils. Lol. Jgas.

Well, you got my attention! Can't wait to see what come outta there.

IT seems to me your on the start of one heck of an adventure good luck

If things could petrify in 150 years you may be digging little round long items. :flag_red::laughing7:

We all wish for rich sites like you're working. Thanks for sharing.

Rock lined could easily be an old well that was filled in. There is one of these on my family farm in OH. Well from the 1840s is filled in and a better one was dug about a hundred feet away in the late 1800s. Hope you dig some goodies down there!

My buddy edged out the perimeter of the privy and found a small bottle bottom. I stopped in on my way home from work and took a look. It's an open pontil med vial! That's a good sign. I'll keep updating this thread as stuff comes out. I think we are going to dig it on Wednesday or Thursday.

Get after it!!! Don’t forget to scan what you dig with a detector

We are going to dig it tomorrow. Fingers crossed there are some full bottles!

Can’t wait to see the finds, I have access to 2 sites, one with a located privy and I have to find the other. It’s a ton of work, I’ll wait and see how you do to motivate me
