Nutting stone question??

A buddy of mine asked me to post this. It was from his property along the Washington coast. He said it was a nutting stone. Seems to make sense. Are these old and what type of nuts were used to make them?

Sorry,but that one is not a Pitted Stone altered by man. That is an Omarolluk and is formed naturally by erosion.
