I don't live there , but Mom was from Palatka , & is Buried There, so I'd hunt where ever I could & watch For Gators.

penzfan, my brother lives in Ocala.....it's land locked; I'll check with him re: swimming holes and PM you.

I think the drive to the ocean from Ocala is about an hour and a half.

What Lorraine said is correct . From Ocala go east on RT.40 till you run out of road. This will leave you at Ormond beach on A1A. Plenty of free parking at various parks if you arrive early. Further south Daytona Beach a few places to park for free. Going to the north instead some free parking also. Flagler beach is to north also but not as flat as Daytona . The sloped beach at Flagler seems harder to work.

Forgot to mention on the north side of 40 in Barberville is an '' attraction'' worth stopping for.

Its an attraction called Barbeville roadside . I can't begin to describe it when you drive by you'll understand .
