I believe this is a Cufflink or a button. It is very small and very ornate. Not sure if it is Silver or Tombac. It was dug on a site near an old Home dating to 1805. I would love to hear what the experts have to say about this one. I am very happy to have found it.

A very nice decorative cufflink, cannot tell from photo what metal, but sure could be silver. Find its twin on your next hunt there.......

I looked yesterday and will go back and look again. It would be very nice to find a matching set.

Nice good luck on finding the match to it...

Not much hunting anymore, only 6 hunts this year, 4 old coins, nothing special relic wise. This will be an off year for me, other things going on..

Yeap late 18th C cuff link button. 99% sure its silver.

Your button appears to be coin silver.

I could probably give a good guess as the silversmith who made it, given the location of the nearest town (assuming it isn't a big city)

OWK I found the cufflink in Natchez, Mississippi. Natchez was established in 1716. The oldest city on the Mississippi River.

Nice cufflink! Does appear to be silver. It's 18th century and probably before 1785 or so.

Steve in PA I went back today looking for the mate and could not find it. I did manage a couple of decent finds from WW1 era. Kind of a slow day target wise.

Given the look of the piece, and the decoration, it is likely 1790's. Assuming it is coin silver, and assuming it was made in Natchez, it was probably made by Lewis Evans.

He was the earliest silversmith in the region, and later became the first sheriff, as well as one of the region's largest landholders.

nice colonial button!

sweet cuff link half

That's definitely silver and not tombac. Great find!

BB you are right. Since digging it has tarnished to a dull black color. I went back to look for the other half, but couldn't find it. It is one of the oldest finds I have. Thanks everyone!
