Odd axe like thing ?

It appears to be hand forged . It's 15 inches long . The handle area is 1/2 inch thick .

The area above the blade is flared from it being pounded . I thought it might be a type of Froe for making shingles , but the blade is only 6" . it weighs over 4 pounds .

I used it to chop some kindling - works wicked good!

Home made kindling splitter? Sure is "beefy" on the top (striking surface?) .

Could have used that this past weekend, kids ran off with my splitting wedge,
had to use pine cone for kindling.

Looks like it was well used in the past, neat tool.

what does the edge on the handle side look like, (the end)? I am wondering if it may be broke off a farming emp.

Its a shingle maker, well not having ever laid eyes on one

Looks like a bark spud, for removing bark from trees.

by shingle maker are you talking about a froe?or frow?s that its not. a froe had a loop made into one end of the steel to hold a wooden handle.
