Odd symbol found at colonial era site. What is it???

This was found at a 1700s homestead in Vermont. It's heavy for its size, so I'm thinking it's lead but not sure. Maybe pewter, but seems like there'd be more corrosion. It looks like a heavily stylized tree, possibly pine. There are attachment points so it was obviously part of something larger. Furniture decoration? The style of it makes me think it's on the older side but I honestly don't know. Thoughts?
