I am not a coin dealer but have dealt quite a bit with error coins as a collector, and I would have to agree with the dealer you took it to, mainly from looking at the obverse.
I'd have it checked by a grading service just to satisfy your curiosity. Why would someone make a fake?? It is oriented correctly and appears very normal misstrike. Just my opinion!!!!

i hope not but i think youll find out that the dealer was right. prior to the steam press coin dies, the planchets were fed by hand, meaning that type of error would not happen, but hey hopefully it is real. the guy to contact would be fred weinberg rare coins, he is a dealer in major errors, and he'll fill your pockets big time for a coin like that, just dont get your hopes up
