Re: OFFICIAL LOUISIANA BAYOU HUNT SITE - UPDATED DAILY

Port Hudson was a battlement that overlooked the Mississippi River. It fell just after Vicksburg surrendered. It was the longest siege of the civil war if I'm not wrong. They were waiting on re-enforcements from Vicksburg but no one came. So once they heard Vicksburg fell they knew it was over. They didn't have any food left and the gunboats had pounded them for 2 months. Lotta history there!!!

Re: OFFICIAL LOUISIANA BAYOU HUNT SITE - UPDATED DAILY

If anyone is looking for civil war sites close to the hunt site, you'll have to enlighten me as to where they were. As far as I can ascertain, troops traveled through the area and were situated around here, but nothing definite. We have soldiers buried in various cemeteries around, undocumented, like they died inroute from one place to another, but there were no encampments around here as far as I know. Except for the areas along the Mississippi River, which is roughly 60 miles from my little plot. The most history I can boast for here is Indian territory. There was Indian activity on my land for several hundred years, and when the ground is saturated and vacated of grasses, points and such are found. When you get here and settle in on Friday evening, I'll give you a history of the land. But I'm sad to say that CW activity is not a part of it. :(

Re: OFFICIAL LOUISIANA BAYOU HUNT SITE - UPDATED DAILY

I'd bet something civil war and possibly 1812 era is found, and theres nothing like having a pack of metal detecting-relic feverish- treasure hunters swinging coils all over the place to find it. Louisiana is saturated in troop movments, both known and unknown. I know no promises are made, but that bayou has me intriged. I bet you get a suprise as well as some lucky detectorist.
Of course "There is treasure everywhere" See ya'll there

Re: OFFICIAL LOUISIANA BAYOU HUNT SITE - UPDATED DAILY

Well, I'm open to anything! No telling what all is out on this land. It's fairly high (looking at the water table/flood level), well, at least 1 foot above the normal flood stage, so no telling who or what camped on this land 150-250 years ago. So come on! Let's find out!!! -Noodle

Re: OFFICIAL LOUISIANA BAYOU HUNT SITE - UPDATED DAILY

Texan Connection, Who said the war was over, Louisiana never surrendered. There were several skirmishes and encampments in Tensas Parish. Tensas has an old CS site to hunt as soon as the standing water drys up. Several CS buckles and buttons have been found by the local farmers. We also have some prime arrow hunting sites. My youngest son found a real nice Celt digging a water line in West Monroe. May bring it for show and tell. Tensas will be at the hunt, and may bring some of his collection.

Re: OFFICIAL LOUISIANA BAYOU HUNT SITE - UPDATED DAILY

That'd be great we all like to see finds that everyone else has!
And it'll be great to meet ya'll!

Re: OFFICIAL LOUISIANA BAYOU HUNT SITE - UPDATED DAILY

Noodle my motel reservations have been made and the check will be in the mail in the morning.

Re: OFFICIAL LOUISIANA BAYOU HUNT SITE - UPDATED DAILY

Ok, Tensas, thanks!

WarsawDaddy called tonight. He's traveling around the country with Burdie, I think. Anyway, they're in south LA tonight, but are traveling through this area tomorrow. We're expecting some heavy thunderstorms in the morning, but they're gonna try and get in to check the site. I think he's curious. ;) Wish them luck!!

UPDATE: We burned around the chimney this weekend, trying to get rid of the underbrush and thorny locust trees, which have branches all over the ground. It was the "first" burn. There will be more in preparation for the hunt.

Thanks to everyone for your support! -Noodle

Re: OFFICIAL LOUISIANA BAYOU HUNT SITE - UPDATED DAILY

Ok I used on online program to calculate the days to be more "official" in the countdown. I ran the thing 5 different times today using the same exact dates and got three different numbers.

The final I got counting the 18th is 65.

Man you just cannot trust the internet

65 or 64 depending on how you count. I'll go with 64 from here....
