Two sites now available besides the 90 acres with the 2 homesites:
1. The Hub, in town, alongside the railroad tracks that were first laid in the late 1800s (I’ll try for a more exact date). It’s been called The Hub for decades, don’t know why. Probably because it was The Hub of Archibald, as far as excitement, finance and working opportunities went in the 50s through the 70s.
The railroad depot was across the road (south) from The Hub. I don’t know what was on The Hub in the late 1800s-early 1900s, but that’s where the center of town was and I'm still researching it for plats and pics. Approximately 4 acres available for MDing. On the site is my great-grandmother’s home, still there, but it was occupied many years prior to her. The site has had something "modern" on it since, I would say, 1870. We'll see what we can find, huh?
I spoke with my cousin about MDing this land, and he absolutely gave his permission. In the past 50 years, it had a construction company’s headquarters on it, several buildings. The buildings have been torn down, but the concrete slabs are still there.
However, he stated to me that the land is “occupied by something.” He won’t rent the house out because he says that everybody who lives in that house turns up crazy. (This could be something good, what do ya think?) I asked him what he meant and all he would say was that it “ain’t a good place to be. Everybody who lives there ends up nuts.” Himself included. I asked his mom, my aunt, about this, and she said he’s always felt that way about the place. It’s vacant, and it’ll stay that way.
I asked him what he thought might be the problem and he said, “I don’t know. Indian burial grounds or something. Or maybe something’s buried there that shouldn’t be. I just know that everybody who’s been there, with the exception of Mama and Daddy, have gone nuts, me included. Ya’ll go out there and dig up whatever it is that makes folks go crazy. I’ll feel better then.”
I have a wonderful family, don’t I? Well, we won't knock it; we'll just go try and make my cousin feel better, huh?
2. Mr. John’s Place - Nice old homesite from eons ago. About 7 miles from my place. You’ll love the ole codger who owns it now. We’ll have to mow the yard so you can hunt, but I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Virgin MD homesite, initially settled in early 1900s, late 1800s. About 5 acres on the homesite, many, many acres of woods.

Saturday hunt here at the old homeplace, then Sunday morning at Mr. John's Place, and Sunday afternoon at The Hub. Back to the greenhouse for dinner. Hunters are free to mix and mingle the places to their hearts' content. Stay at my place, go to The Hub, or go to Mr. John's place. Whatever strikes your fancy. Just be back at the greenhouse at 6:00 for grub.
There’s still an optional trip to Poverty Point Sunday morning. Anyone wants to go, I’ll escort. Probably an excellent trip for spouses and non-hunters, if you want to go.
Pics coming when the weather clears, maybe tomorrow.
