I went to town and did some runnign around for my mom. well I spun around to my workplace to see if the money delivery had come so I can get my box of work ordered nickels. I got home exhausted and after putting everything away started on the box of nickels. they were from Brinks and in those nasty plastic tubes. Ugh! I am thinking this was someone else's dump because there was absolutely no buffalos or war nickels. There were 1939's, 1941's and 1946's but no war nickels :;whimpers:: that officially stinks. I am hopeing that tomorrow when I put my other 2 boxes, they will have something in them.

As it is, I dumped 400 dollars worth of nickels today. OMG! my aching arms. I am not doing that amount of dumping again unless I have mechanical assistance.oh vay oh vay. But the bank was really sweet at helping me out. I deposited 200 dollars in my account and the other 200 went into my pocket for thursday's pickup. ::crosses her fingers:: please let me get some war nickels...

see ya,
Garoulady

I did that at my CU and asked them about ordering boxes. They order on friday and when i ask when it gets delivered the lady said she couldn't tell me due to security issues. I mean really? I am 5 ft, 280 Lbs of flabby nothingness and she's worry about me holding them up? I was almost insulted and told her that I work odd days and didn't want them to have to hold the boxes for me till I get a day off. She said that that was no problem, that if I give them my daytime phone number they would call me and let me know when the boxes came in.

also I got my other 2 boxes from my bank and went through them. Absolutely nothing. I don't know if I am going through my own dumps which I don't think so because I am picking up at different sources or there is another CRHer in the area, or worse I culled all the buffalos and war nickels in the area. I highly doubt that. But out of 3 boxes to not to find one single buffalo, war nickel or even a V-nickel is very annoying.

I have to go to the grocery store and pick up milk before the big storm comes and I think I am going to pick up maybe 10 dollars worth of nickels if this store has them. when people ask I tell them I won the jackpot in family poker night. LOL.

Wish me luck,
Garoulady

Thank you for your care. I have gotten over 20 boxes of nickels and this is the first skunk I have ever gotten. Whether its a buffalo or a war nickel I have always found something worthwhile. Out of this box I got neither. 1950D? Hmm, maybe I will have to rego through my nickels for this day. there was a lot of 1939 nickels in there and I kept those. Figured when I got enough I could roll them up and sell them on Ebay or something. And those protests aren't just in the capital, we have some up here in traverse city. Hmm, I just did my finances and saw that I have an extra 200 bucks. Wonder if I should pay bills with it or buy another box of nickels, go through them, then dump it and pay the bill. LOL gracious decisions decisions. I got some canadian in the mix but its all 1980's and 1990's and I don't save for metal content, unless its silver.

well I'm off to get my other two boxes. See ya later.

Sincerely, Garoulady

The 1950-D is the most valuable Jefferson nickel, at $14 in MS-60. It is very hard to find in circulation at a mintage of 2,630,030.

The reason is you could tell your friend, and then he/she tells someone, and it finally gets into the hands of a bank robber.

When I started this hobby about 5 years ago I'd only do nickels and cents. I think I found about 6 war nickels and one V nickel over a period of 6 months. The last couple of years have been much better :)

well I got the additional 20 dollars worth of nickels and went through them and found still nothing. But now I am home ridden due to an medical condition. :;huffs:: which really stinks. If this doesn't clear up I think I might be visiting the ER or at least my doc on monday. Nothing life threatening but just annoying as all gets out. I wanted to go CRHing fudge it, not sit at home for days on end. Bummer and double bummer.

On a sidenote, what years of canadian nickels is everyone saving for the nickel content? I have been finding a lot of them and was wondering what years to save. i figure if I can find a local CRH who collects them, maybe I can swap out for some war nickels or just give them to the person. Can't put them through the coin counters since none I know takes canadian. I have the next 4 days off so I am hopeing this clears up and I can get my backside back to CRHing till I have to go back to work. Worse case scenerio is that I have to have surgery done and I will be out of action for 2 months. :;grumbles::

Hugs and Smiles,

I think it's 99 and older? I know there are several different metal content ratios with nickel and copper, etc.. But I think all the ones worth keeping possibly would be 1999 and older. I'm thinking that is what one of the guys on here told me. Hope you feel better!

Save 1981 and before. They are pure nickel all the way back to 1919 or 1920 time frame except for plated steel nickels of ww2 and Korean War vintage.
