After work; the son and I got out to one of our many old logging camps in the area. Camp Harvey was a railroad logging camp during the 1940s of the Red River Lumber Company and later Fruit Growers Supply Company. We have done well in the past finding some nice mercs, a V nickle, quarters and old tokens.

So today we worked around the old housing areas and dinning cars. Started off with a buffalo nickle on top the ground. Looks like a 1925. He's soaking now to sure up the date and maybe a mint mark. Son then finds a Chinese coin at about in an inch followed by a 40-S wheat.

Then it happens. The sweet sound of silver..........BUT; when I dig, I see the signs of melted glass......Then the first. A melted disk that looks like a dime. It was a merc. Then a quarter.............check the hole......a larger disk is found. I check it and can see the eagles wing on the reverse. What once was a great and beautiful coin is now a melted mess. :BangHead:

Oh well. We had fun anyway and got out away from everyone for the day. Hope you all luck and thanks for looking. COUNTING DOWN THE DAYS TO OUR VACATION IN MASS!!!!!!

Cool finds & a Good Time With your Son.
Sounds Good to me.

Loving them old Keys.
Davers

You all are going up to the Cape? I'll be up there from 6/28 until 7/3. Would love a dig or two!

We were supposed to be in South Jersey (Cowtown) area to see the wife's family again. That fell through. Too bad cause her cousins live in houses that were built in the 1700 and we have had great luck around them. One spot we didn't get to yet is where the Philly PD dumped the horse manure from the late 1800's. I can't wait to dig in that!! .....Sorry to say, but were in Mass the third week of July!!! Maybe next summer we can hook up in on the wife's family areas?

Would much rather have the Coin before copious amount of heat were added to it as you. But Better than nothing for sure. Great conversation point!!

I agree.....Thats ok. Just another spot to mark off our to do list!!!

Hey, fried silver is still silver and it all adds up. Nice hunt regardless and quite a few nice finds.

I got a hit a few days ago that sounded like silver and it was a hunk of melted aluminum about the size of a quarter. I thought it was a coin until I put my reading glasses on. Then I kept finding more and more. There are literally hundreds of them.

As it turns out, someone torched a stolen car at the spot years ago. The aluminum pieces are just melted fragments left over from the clean up.

Anyway, congrats to you AND your son. I was just on the phone with my youngest (just turned 19) son discussing treasure hunting. He now has a girlfriend and it's getting really tough these days. Enjoy it while you can and as often as you can. They grow up SO fast and once a girl comes into the picture, forget about it.

Congrats again and the best of luck on your vacation.

and good luck on your vacation.
