Oil Lamp Part ?

The only thing that makes me think of an oil lamp is the tang on the bottom. Looks like a lamp's chimney could fit there. Plus the three diamond shaped holes above the tang make me think of an oil lamp. But, I've never really seen a lamp with a part like this on it.

clean up the back there is likely a patent date I am guessing 1870s
