Ok need help with ID please

Looks like a shotgun shell and but don't seem to be brass. it is just a bit bigger that a quarter. Looks almost like zinc. has a small star and the only letter that can be made out are MA_ _ H _N maybe? was found around a 3 ringer.

Please help !!

it looks like the eye piece of from a transit or some type of optic. some of the cheap ones were made of pot metal rather than brass. just my guess dave
