ok, new to the hobby.....what is clad???

new to metal detecting, may sound silly, but i am not familiar with the slang terms yet....what is clad?? thanks

A clad coin is one that has multiple layers of metal in it; most current U.S. clad coins consist of an inner core of copper, with outer layers of a silver-colored nickel-copper alloy.

Any coin made after 1964 in the united states is a clad coin........... So if you get a coin from the united States that is dated after 1964 that is called a clad coin..that would be the 10 cent and 25 cent and 50 cent coin....... and the junk 1 cent .....

Unless you find a 65 thur 69 Half then it would be a 40% silver. Jus check your pockets the coins that you get today is clad.......Matt

Actually the penny did not become "clad" until 1982 when the last copper penny rolled off the line..
Since then they have all been made with a Zink inside and light copper shell..
