I want to make the best purchase i can. i have the some over the 1,100 there asking for the DFX 300 so tell me about how you feel about the DFX 300 and other detectors out on the market for around the same money.

I have lots of parks and old houses around me and will be hitting a very large are later in the fall. So all please help me spend my money best i can please

thx all for the info it will be a big help to me!!!!!!

I did forget to add..and I'm sorry...I'm giving my daughter my Coin-master pro so she can go with me. that's why Im getting a new one. Have to keep my Princess happy! hope that clears some up.

I have no idea why you want to go and buy one of the most expensive detectors out there. From your post count, I am assuming you're new to the hobby?

The expensive detectors are just bells and whistles. Plus they are heavier with the big battery packs. A cheap detector can find the same stuff, I went detecting with a guy with a DFX and I did just as well as he did, and I only have a Tesoro Silver Umax. I've tried 8 or 9 different detectors, and the Silver Umax is by far the best I've had and I am in love with it.

So instead of spending all your money for something so expensive, buy something to suit what you need, and get a nice pinpointer too.

I bought a DFX 300 about 3 yrs ago and the very first thing I found out was that I needed a different coil. That 12" coil may be deep but it will drive you crazy if you are hunting parks and schools. They are best where there is little trash such a big fields. I would get the D2 or the 6X10 coil. I sold my machine this year and got the new MXT PRO (again I sold the 12" coil) with a 10x12 SEF coil which I love. There is nothing wrong with the DFX but it is going to take you some time to master it. It is a great machine. Stick to the preset programs until you learn how to make the adjustments. If you want the tone id (which I love when coin hunting) it is already on the jewelry/beach mode. If you select coin/jewelry you will have to turn the tone id on. Deep dimes will just be a chirp but the VDI will be solid. Get the Digging Deeper with the DFX book. I got my MXT for relic hunting and I may get the etrac later for coins. All machines will find coins and all manufacturers have great machines. It is just your preference which you like. Good luck and post your finds.

just starting out I wouldn't go buy anything too expensive... a good used one would do you just as good... they will all find you treasure... you just need to learn the one you get... the more expensive detectors just help you identify your targets better.

Oh by the way forgot to mention, always dig all your targets. Most detectorists won't do this, but you pass so much good stuff. You will find the very best stuff if you completely clean out a place, rather than pick at it here and there.

why i want to get a better Detector now is that i have the money. if i don't get it now then the money would end up going to something else. i know my wife has been looking at fencing four our yard and all. just want to get it now and not have to get one later if you know what i mean.

Have you had any dealing with that MD? You might like it you might not. Thats alot of money being spent for something that you MIGHT not like. Point being you don't buy a car without test driving it. If POSSIBLE try to rent that detector and see how your gonna like it. I know thats not always possible, but if you go to a store and get it you can try one out there. Just my 2 cents....Best of luck! :icon_thumright:

I did go to my whites dealer here in town. i like the rechargeable batteries and the pack for AA batteries too. its is heaver than my Coin-masterpro. but the screen with the back lit display is easier to see day or evening. they are some of the main things i like about the DFX 300. but im open to others that have some of the same things things. I did forget to add..and I'm sorry...I'm giving my daughter my Coin-master pro so she can go with me. that's why iIm getting a new one. Have to keep my Princess happy! hope that clears some up.

I'd suggest Finding a good used medium priced detector. Stash the extra cash ;D til you decide if you are going to stick with it. Use some of the extra money for a pinpointer (my pref is a Garrett) a good shovel and digging tool and a small coil if the detector doesn't come with one already. These are real handy in trashy areas. I use a Fisher F 75 SE for relic hunting with pretty good success.

the Whites XLT is a great machine... they are not to expensive, though they don't make them any more you can find good used ones.

An Ace 250 would be more than adequate for several years at least...

So some of the funds go for property improvements...not the end of the world...and remember there are also numerous side benefits..

And a few years from now as you become proficient with the MD Unit, you shouldn't have a problem talking the wife into an upgrade...

I hated my ACE 250, I sold that thing as quick as I could.

you know man before you jump in to anything research it really good. :icon_thumright: I'd also suggest you talk to Mike at woodland detectors - toll free 855-966-3563. He sold me my minelab E-Trac (at a great price), after I decided I wanted more (also in it for the long haul and just decided I wanted something that would be better then what I was using, actually I think I just decided one day I never buy myself the best of anything..it was time to just have the best this one time!) take your time and research things for a while before dropping down your cash. give him your list of what you want from a machine and where you hunt- most of the mods and posters here in PA have dealt with Mike (and I'm saying this in a good way as you can call him with questions and talk to him almost anytime. he's great like that!)

for me the only thing I decided against doing is water hunting (and with all the rings people find here I almost regret that, initially I wanted that, but decided the Garrett AT-pro would work- but then decided the minelab might be a better land machine -and even tho I know a few water holes, I'd rather not swim/hunt them after cutting my foot as a kid on a rusty bed frame! swimming local isn't all it was cracked up to be!) - anyhow I am really happy with going from an Ace to a Minelab even if I am still learning it. things take time. I'd say I was just started to get used to knowing what the 350 was telling me when I retired it. I can also say that I found my first V nickel with the minelab in an area that I know I hit hard with the Ace (and missed it) and also cleaned up my lawn afterward too. I'm in no way suggesting buy a minelab, just talk to Mike before making a solid decision. He'll totally give you the right direction to go for finding a machine that will work best for what ever it is your planning to enjoy most...
for me I just want to find old coins- it doesn't happen often enough- but I'm really happy once and a while I dig up cool stuff! :) shiny stuff is also good! :tongue3:

Hey just an idea get an Ace250 & a garret pinpointer.....you will only spend about 1/3 the money & trust me these machines are good! then maybe next year after you have made your 350ish back from finds..... You may want to upgrade if the hobby is really for you.....& by the way Altoona Pa is just a hop skip & jump away from me .....GL on whatever you decide to do!
