OK, Thumbscrapers! Who's got some?

Well Larson, I thought we should have another thread for these guys. I do have several frames of personal finds, but I am going to start with those that I have acquired. Our material over here, isn't as nice as what you guys have over there except for a few exceptions.
The single frame is a lot of mainly KRF favorites I put together years ago. I should re-do it, or make few more. And then there is the only artifact I have made from this type of an agate.

Here is Jasper scraper, and knife. River Rat has a thumb scraper that I sent her, that is of the same material as the knife.

some more asst'd
note the last image is to show some of the ways of dating these
i have said this a few times in other related posts and i surely don't wanna sound like a broken record but.................
.............in my hand are two KRF examples, the one on the right has a rounded working edge which tells it is of a newer type........
the scraper on the left is an older example which is evident by either one or two graver spurs on the business end of these tools
i only mean what i have learned about the finds from my area and i don't know about others since these scraper tools can be found in most any state in the country

I dunno about dating these for sure myself Steve, I've heard the same things as you have. The site I hunt most often produces an awful lot of these, and what I am finding on the surface isn't all that old for the most part, and the majority either still have, or show evidence that they had a spur. In my humble opinion, that little spur, whether located on the edge of the bit, or being part of the bit (the business end), I think they were a great aid to the cutting edge. I wonder if different use's didn't dictate the necessity of the spur or not.

i think i see a couple of RBSW scrapers on the left side also which seems very interesting

on the subject of the dating/graver spur i am going by what i read in two books maybe by steinbrueck, or brower, or vradenberg
and also on the site i hunt i one long area where we find the older pottery designs, and the oxbow, duncan/hanna, and pelican lake projectile points we find that these type of scrapers to be prolific and almost exclusive...........but i guess it is only at best a clue to something we may never completely figure out

just sayin' these scraper tools are probably one of the most common and simplest tools.....and at the same time so much can be learned from them

thanks quito

I am an amature but this one I have is my favorite.2013-09-04 19.07.44.webp

I don't have many, but here are a few. I have trouble identifying thumb scrapers from preform pieces, but really like the previous posts...it is helping me see some differences...After looking at the photo, I wonder if the middle one is maybe something else...it has a chevron shape to it...any ideas?
