Found in a farmer’s field in upstate NY where I have found coins and artifacts from ~1860 - 1935. Looks to be made of brass. I do not have a clue.

I’d thought it looked like maybe a cherub from a gilt Victorian mirror frame, or something similar? It looks as though it’s broken off on one side (does that seem right?).

We tend to generalize most of these types of finds as 'furniture hardware/decoration'.:icon_scratch:
You can see where the screw went through to hold it to the wood... so drawer-pull escutcheon plate, mantle clock or document box decoration, you choose.

Maybe the depiction could be a clue.
What is the little guy holding, besides the drapped cloth?

The little guy looks like he is crouched down holding a knife/dagger (yellow outline). His arm is cocked back and hand is palm down (blue outline).

It has what looks like 3 tangs and is that another (4)broken off at the shoulder? I think it was attached to leather or a leather strap or belt..

I dont think he is holding a dagger. Whatever it is, its something much larger.
