Old Brass Piece?

Found at a site which has yielded numerous flat buttons (several Tombac material) and 3 pieces of Spanish silver (oldest 1783 1/2 reale).
It may not be evident in the photo, but the piece has flats along its length. Appears it was hexagonal. It obviously was attached to something with flush fitting screws. Measures about an inch across at the narrow end.

Looks like it could be a musket piece

I agree, it does look like gun furniture. Maybe a ramrod keeper. I know there are some rifle experts in here. This won't go unsolved very long.

Found another piece close to where I found the first one. Same thickness but no lengthwise flats on this piece. It does not mate to the first piece. Appears to be something missing in between the two pieces.
