I found this shell back in the middle of January in a woods but I never posted it. I was going through stuff to figure out what to throw away cause as many of you know metal detecting can cause you to accumulate a lot of worthless junk. I came across this and decided not to throw it away especially since I was able to find a little history on it.

It's an old 45-70 shell made in June of 1881 http://www.oldammo.com/march06.htm

Very cool. I have found a lot shells and quite a few of them are still loaded. Thanks for posting, now I'm going to take a look at them again to try and get a date.

Wolverine.

thats an oldie, nice work on dating it. I have a whole box full of shell casings and dropped bullets, a good winter project would be dating some of them. thanks for the link Giant, HH out there

Worthless junk? It's all treasure to me, and I got a whole 35 years of it in my barn, house, hobby hut and other places that my wife can't find. But she is just about as bad as I am. I ordered her a Fisher 1280x (got tired of waiting on Tesoro to get their Tigershark problem figured out.) We are getting close! to THE SEASON!

Neat relic, Giant. :icon_thumleft: I found one of those brass shells (10 gauge) in my neighbor's woods. The head says "Parker Bros. W. Meridian, CT" and mine was manufactured from 1880-1934.

Here's the link I used to ID it.

That's a beautiful old full brass shotgun shell ya got there Anne. When ever I find one they are always collapsed or split.
