A couple of weeks ago the girls and I were driving around scouting places to hunt. On an old country road ,we spotted this one through the trees. Today I went back and asked permission from the landowner to hunt it. This was the sweetest old couple,Eve and Adam...can you believe it. Eve is 75 and Adam 85.
This house ,while solid and straight on the outside, has had roof damage and everything is falling into the basement. I could have cried. It was so beautiful and really fine craftmanship that I want to buy it and redo it. I love saving old homes. I tried to take pics of the inside and figure out how I am going to get inside to dig.Parts of the ceiling from the second story, attic and main floor are all in the basement. But the chandelier is still hanging and the cabinets are on the walls....partial upstairs closet above the steps is full of old chairs and I can spot a round claw foot oak table in the part of dining area that hasnt caved in. Eve informed me that the original owner had died and it went to relatives who used it as a hunting shack until the 60's and then they acquired it. But nothing was ever done with it.
I tried to dig through the brush to detect but it was tough. Found quite a few wheats and the JFK in the front where a porch had been torn off. I am sure there is alot more here, but will need to go back in the spring when there is no greenery. The area used to be a farm and I found the old barn and privy ,but cant get close enough to hunt yet. Plus there is a wandering bear who Eve has chased out of her yard three times now.
