Old button found by the river. Help me ID? Thanks!

Evening, all.
Got permission to hunt on buddy's family lot along the water here in Charleston, and out pops this old button. Never seen one like it, can anyone shed any light on what this might be? Appears to be brass over tin? Think I nicked it with the shovel while digging, shiny on the inside.
Any info would be great, Thanks to all in advance!

I am not convinced that it's a button. The architecture of it is sorta suggestive of a drawer pull or cabinet knob.
