Old button found in Nova-Scotia Canada

Hey folks, found this old button on the shore line in some rocks in the middle of no where!

It's slightly smaller than a penny, very thin, and has no distinguishable markings or lettering besides the pictured face.

It was mishandled and is now broken, so apparently it's very brittle. I would expect thin brass but perhaps it's iron?

Too bad it broke...maybe little super glue just to keep it all together,looks like a nice old button.Maybe early 1800s.
