I'm excited. This is my second "What is it?" in about a week. I found this button(?) earlier today. I have tried to take several pictures for you to get a good look at it. One side is pretty plain...eagle, stars, anchor...the other side is corroded beyond recognition. I will try soaking it in olive oil if you guys and gals think that this might bring out some detail. Anyway, this item is just slightly smaller than a quarter, and I'm not sure about the metal type. Any help will be appreciated! God Bless!
By the way, I followed the advice but I still can't get them to resize. I'm sorry. SO, another person in this thread found one today and posted his so I am using his as my example. Maybe you can answer both of our questions. His is in much better condition than mine was, and the back of mine is completely corroded...no noticeable detail whatsover on back.

Re: Old Button? Military?

I believe its a modern blazer button made to resemble a military button. Although my knowledge of buttons is limited so don't quote me on that.

whoa - back off/downsize the size of the pic some so we can see it clearly

it looks like a wwII button but may be older -

Yeah. Back off from the button a bit to take the shot--also use the "flower icon" on your camera (that's the "Macro" setting), and when you resize the photos, you can crop them so that you get the find as large as you wish.

That said, do NOT use olive oil on buttons of any sort. ESPECIALLY not two-piece buttons. Many CW buttons I have would crumble apart if left in olive oil! Wait for an ID before you clean it. I think there's enough detail there...but we need a photo of the Back of it too--or if you can tell the backmark, type it out for us in a reply.

Regards,

Buckleboy

It seems to be a sailors button of some sort - is there a benchmark (makers mark) on the backside of it?

I don't know about his, but mine is so corroded that I can't make anything out. Any suggestions for removing the corrosion?
