Hi - hunting a new wooded area in NE Ohio that really hasn't given up much but this.....thing. I'd hate to waste anymore time there if this is nothing. The back looks somewhat like other buttons I gave found, minus the shank and any back mark - just wondering what your opinions are. The widest diameter is exact to a dime. Thanks for looking...

It looks to be a flat or coin button that has had a hard life.

Only a guess, mind you but my guess is that is a old paper shotgun shell end, round spot in the center is where firing pin hit!Dime size would indicate that it is a 410 caliber , these were popular in early 1900's and before , I believe mainly fowl hunting not used much these days. But i'll probably be proved wrong and exposed for the total idiot I actually am! thats what my 2x's always said anyways!! but they are not to be listened to, after all look at who they married!!! LOL

Thanks for the thought guys.......Gimp, I thought the same thing at first before I cleaned it but I'm 99% sure it's not a shotgun shell hull / end.....hard to tell in the 2nd pic but it is pretty thick, maybe an eight inch, slightly "domed" and impossible to bend or break with your fingers anyway - I've dig hundreds of shotgun hulls and I can snap them in half with two fingers.

Looks like a flat button to me... definitely not a shotgun headstamp.
