Too funny, I found the same thing yesterday at a late 1800's house and got super excited because I've found civil war things next door. Once I got home and cleaned it off I realized it has ballou/butterfly clutches on the back (like tie tacks have), so know it's not old. I think those type pin backs were invented around WWII so maybe it's that old but mine might be newer. Looks like yours has the pin things bent that would have had the clutches on them.

Yep! It could be modern. It looks just like the ones I had on my U.S. army uniforms in the late 1960's!
